Fountain, county downgrade fire restrictions; urge caution

Last updated 11/4/2020 at 10:34am

Local fire restrictions have been downgraded from Stage II to Stage I, both in El Paso County and the city of Fountain. These updated restrictions will remain in place until the conditions and resourcing warrant the change.

Stage I Fire Restrictions prohibit the following acts:

The use of model rockets

Public prescribed burns/burn permits

Sale or use of fireworks

The restrictions allow the following acts:

Open fires are allowed within permanently constructed fire grates, charcoal grill and wood burning stoves in area cleared of all flammable materials.

Outdoor smoking is allowed within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of and cleared of all flammable materials.

“Conditions are still very dry, and therefore we encourage everyone to still use caution with fire,” Fountain Fire Chief James Maxon said. “We are working in collaboration with El Paso County and the city of Colorado Springs to have the same level of fire restrictions so residents have a clear understanding of what is allowed.”

The Fountain Fire Department urges all citizens of and visitors to Fountain to abide by the order and share in the responsibility of keeping our community safe.
