New site helps small businesses

Just in time for the holidays, small retail merchants are banding together on a new e-commerce platform to offer thousands of unique gifts to U.S. shoppers.

A Colorado Springs beauty supply store is one of those small businesses trying out this new way of doing business in times when in-person shopping has become difficult.

Saturday, Nov. 28, is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. This year, we know that small businesses need our support now more than ever as they navigate, retool and pivot from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Please join the Small Business Association (SBA) and organizations across the country in supporting your local small businesses by shopping at a small business. Founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011, Small Business Saturday has become an important part of small businesses' busiest shopping season. According to the 2019 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, 70 percent of U.S. consumers are aware of Small Business Saturday. Find local businesses that are participating:

Lisa Pierce, owner of L.E. Beauty of Colorado Springs, announced that L.E. Beauty has joined other small retail businesses at  MainStreetEXPO is designed to deliver an easier, more affordable way for small retailers to sell to a national audience online.

"We joined MainstreetEXPO to grow our high-end makeup line and reach new customers," said Pierce.

L.E. Beauty is a locally-owned family business in Colorado Springs that produces and carries high-end beauty supplies. Unique gift options from L.E. Beauty on include a mineral-based makeup line and full-coverage gluten-free foundation.

"We're grateful to L.E. Beauty for joining our effort to help small retailers survive COVID and thrive after," added Bernard Sandoval, who quickly launched when he saw how many businesses were closing for good in cities across the US. "We're adding great new merchants and unique gifts every day. Every purchase is meaningful to each small business."

MainstreetExpo is an e-commerce platform designed to give small businesses a simple, fast way to sell to a national audience virtually overnight.

The program is fueled by an alliance of small business marketers, technologists and community leaders who saw the need for a strong response to the catastrophic level of business closings in the wake of COVID-19.
