New home construction around the county has been unusually busy this fall, with permit numbers for October outdoing the 15-year high set in September.

Pikes Peak Regional Building Department reported 568 new home permits in October. In September, the total of 564 made that the busiest month since August 2005. Officials note that October tends to be slower, so the results were a bit surprising.

So far this year there have been 4,209 single family home permits pulled. That is a 23-percent increase through this same time last year.
