A local high school honor student is spearheading an Angel Tree project to provide gifts for children and senior citizens. Despite the challenges of having to do it "virtually," she hopes the community will step up to help.

Kiara Grant is a student at Fountain-Fort Carson High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She recently started an Angel Tree project for her school. An Angel Tree is a Christmas tree decorated with tags listing the wanted items of specific people in need, and anyone can choose certain gifts and buy them anonymously.

"I have signed up to support 150 less fortunate people, including children and seniors," Grant said. "I have had 31 people from my school want to participate, but my deadline is Dec. 15."

Because her school is currently on remote learning, she is having to conduct the project virtually instead of being able to have people view the tree and tags in person. Anyone interested in adopting a tag should email her at [email protected] to indicate which gifts will be purchased and to arrange a drop-off or pick-up.

"I really want to help out less fortunate people in the community, and I am hoping to be able to support every child and senior," Grant said.
