Lake Bennett: The mystery of the disappearing water

Lake Bennett, a man-made lake installed in the Glen at Widefield area, has been empty for over a year. Various civic groups have stated that the lake depends entirely on local groundwater levels, which means in drought periods there is no source to feed it.

For years, Lake Bennett has provided a pleasant view for residents in the Glen at Widefield. Then in 2019, the lake unexpectedly began drying up.

"It looks very ugly where the pond used to be," one resident reported. "The Glen Metropolitan District put a gazebo and table by the lake and on the trail.  Nobody wants to sit and look at that mess."

The resident also raised concerns that to the best of her knowledge, Lake Bennett has never become empty in the last 15 years. She observed that the pond emptied around the same time that new building efforts started in 2019 to expand the area's hou...
