Many birders think that winter is a slow time of year for birds. The truth is, there is as much to look at during the winter as there is in the summer. Cold weather and bare trees deter many people from spending time in their yards, parks and local trails. Some people assume that because many of our beautiful summer birds have migrated south for the winter that there is not much to look at out there. The truth is, we are the southern winter migration destination for just as many birds that spend the winter in warm southern areas.
