El Paso County Public Health receives two awards for distinguished budget presentation and comprehensive financial annual report

Dr. James Terbush, president of the El Paso County Board of Health, and Dr. Susan Wheelan, El Paso County Public Health director, hold up awards the EPCPH received for its financial reports and budget presentation from the Government Finance Officers Association.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has presented El Paso County Public Health with two prestigious awards: one for the 2020 Distinguished Budget Presentation and one for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year 2019.  

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.  

Regarding the Distinguished Budget Presentation, GFOA notes that this award is a testament to local government's commitment to preparing a high-quality budget document which reflects GFOA's best practices and guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting. 

"El Paso County Public Health is committed to providing the highest level of transparency," said El Paso County Public Health Director Susan Wheelan. "These awards demonstrate our agency's commitment to accountability and excellence in financial reporting." 

"Receiving these awards signifies that we have met GFOA's criteria for transparent, effective financial statements," said El Paso County Controller Nikki Simmons. "It is a very rigorous process, and these are difficult awards to earn. We are proud of our team's efforts to assure we meet the highest national standards for financial reporting."
