Longtime Western Omelette 2 employee Raymond Hiatt died Dec. 31, but no family came to claim him. His employer is raising funds to help cover memorial costs. "He would do anything for anybody," employer James Sanchez said.

Raymond Hiatt, a longtime cook at Western Omelette 2 in downtown Fountain, passed away on Dec. 31, 2020. James Sanchez, Hiatt's employer and supervisor at Western Omelette 2, remembers hiring Hiatt 25 years ago for the original Western Omelette location in Colorado Springs.

"He would do anything for anybody," Sanchez said. "That's why I kept him employed for the longest time. If I needed him, he would show up. He was that loyal."

Hiatt had no family members that claimed him, so Sanchez took the responsibility to pay Hiatt's last bills and for his memorial service (which will be held March 6). Sanchez has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover the memorial costs. In addition to the memorial service (which will be private), a public celebration of life will be held at Western Omelette 2 on the same day, starting at 5 p.m. Friends of Hiatt are encouraged to attend and share their memories.
