Widefield boxer wins his pro-debut fight; honors memory of WHS men

In October 2020, this publication reported on how Luis Joe Ybarra Jr., a 2019 graduate of Widefield High School and successful amateur boxer, had signed with boxing Coach Freddie Roach and was turning to professional boxing. On Feb. 20, he appeared in his debut professional fight in Chihuahua, Mexico, and won. His father, Luis Joe Ybarra Sr., described the deciding factor in the fight.

"[His] opponent failed to come out of his corner, after being dropped by relentless body shots in the middle of the second round," Ybarra Sr. said.
