An El Paso County Sheriff's Office patrol car blocks off the street near the location of a dead body that was discovered Monday afternoon.

At 1:35 p.m. Monday, the El Paso County Sheriff's office received a 911 call about an adult female body found in the 16000 block of Midway Ranch Road. Authorities arrived at the scene and blocked it off for investigation.

Sgt. Deborah Mynatt, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office, told reporters on scene that afternoon that the sheriff's office could not release the gender of the deceased person, but could confirm it was an adult. She also said that as of that time, authorities could not release whether foul play was suspected or how long the body had been there. The announcement that it was a female was made around 8:30 p.m.

"The identity of the victim will not be released until positive identification has been made by the Coroner's Office and the next of kin has been notified," a media release stated. "Our Major Crimes Unit has assumed responsibility over the investigation. Currently, there is no known threat to the community. This is an active investigation; additional information will be provided as the investigation allows."

The general area where the body was found, close to the intersection of Old Pueblo Road and Hanover Road, is isolated and, according to Mynatt, is frequently used to leave unwanted furniture or trash. There have also been fatal accidents and discoveries of bodies in the general area in the past, including two deceased children who were found by Old Pueblo Road. Mynatt stated that the area is rural and there are few lights in the area at night, which unfortunately makes it easy to get injured and not find any nearby help.
