New apartments could come quickly if rezoning approved

A proposal to rezone about 17 acres south of Mesa Ridge Parkway to accommodate a potential 336-unit apartment complex received preliminary approval by the City Council last week. A second reading of the ordinance is planned for April 13.

Attendees of last week's Fountain City Council meeting got a first glimpse of what a new 336-unit apartment complex south of Mesa Ridge Parkway might look like if the city approves a rezoning request and future development plans.

The council did vote to approve the first reading of an ordinance to rezone 17.4 acres just west of the Walgreens and Black Bear Diner along Fountain Mesa Road from Regional Commercial District to Multi-Family (MF) District.
