"The research shows that only one of every 10 childhood sexual abuse survivors will disclose during childhood, and the average age for disclosure is 52," Joyce Aubrey said. "So I guess I'm pretty average."
Aubrey went into therapy when she began having flashbacks in her 50s, eventually finding that the flashbacks were blocked memories of sexual abuse. Art and writing exercises became a way for her to process her trauma, which led to her creating the nonprofit Finding Our Voices.
