I hope all are well, enjoyed a lovely Easter weekend and have been able to get outdoors and take in the recent warm weather. This week I will highlight an upcoming job fair, the annual Great American Cleanup, and a volunteer opening at the county.

Leading off, the Pikes Peak Workforce Center will host its annual Spring Job Fair on Wednesday, April 14, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. There will be more than 100 employers on Premier Virtual, an interactive online job fair platform. Veterans and eligible spouses will have priority from 10 a.m. –10:30 a.m., with the general public being allowed access beginning at 10:30 a.m. It will be an excellent day of making connections between businesses that are hiring and people looking for work or to upgrade their careers.

Attendees should register beforehand to create their account and upload a résumé at portal.premiervirtual.com/event/register-jobseeker/4966-2021-spring-community-fair. Also, make sure to create or update your ConnectingColorado.com account before attending. And remember to dress for success and be ready for the opportunity of a real-time video interview. Also, the Great American Cleanup is Saturday, April 24. Civic organizations, churches, scout groups school groups, and individuals are encouraged to participate in the 2021 Cleanup. The Great American Cleanup is sponsored by the Pikes Peak Partners and encourages citizens to come out and help give the Pikes Peak region a spring cleaning. Every year more than 60 million pounds of litter and debris are collected by millions of volunteers throughout the country. In 2019, El Paso county more than 1,300 volunteers collected 1,934 bags of litter and debris at local parks, trails, creeks, roads and town centers.

Volunteers can select from 20 different cleanup locations within the Pikes Peak Region. Site coordinators will host volunteer check-in sites beginning at 9 a.m. at all locations around the region. Bags and safety vests will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, sunscreen and refillable water bottles. Youth under 16 years old must be supervised by an adult. Finally, the El Paso County Board of Commissioners is looking for community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Advisory Board. The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Advisory Board is currently seeking one new member. The El Paso County CSBG Advisory Board actively participates in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program in El Paso County, serving low-income communities and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. Commission meetings are held quarterly; March, June, September, and December on the second Friday of the month from 2-3:30 p.m. Meetings are currently being held over an online platform in lieu of in-person, and this will continue to occur for the foreseeable future.
