The city of Fountain and various organizations are partnering to bring back an in-person Memorial Day ceremony after last year’s hiatus due to COVID-19.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Mayor’s Park, corner of Iris Drive and Dale Street, Fountain.
The city, VFW, American Legion, El Paso County, Fountain-Fort Carson High School and others will be participating. Mayor Gabe Ortega will provide opening remarks, and the FFCHS choir will sing the National Anthem.
Fountain Police/Fire Honor Guard will post the colors, County Commissioner Longinos Gonzalez will speak, Taps will be played, and there will be a presentation of wreaths for the armed services and a special wreath being made and presented for Gold Star Families.
“We have a lot of organizations working together to create a really touching and dignified event,” said John Trylch, the city’s communications manager.
