Track public works projects

Last updated 5/18/2021 at 3:10pm

Good day, El Paso County. I hope all are enjoying a great week so far. This week I want to highlight our county website for tracking Public Works projects as well as post a few photos from our recently held El Paso County Youth Fishing Derby.

Our El Paso County Department of Public Works launched a Construction and Maintenance Projects website to keep citizens informed of short-term, long-term, and weekly road work and maintenance projects in El Paso County. The website includes projects such as drainage work, pothole repairs, crack sealing, snowplowing, sign replacement and customer service requests. The website keeps citizens informed of road work that may impact them. It also includes projects resulting from service requests that address citizens' issues or concerns regarding County roads.

For information of Department of Public Works' projects near you, visit the Construction and Maintenance Projects website at https://publicworks.elpasoco.com/road-bridge/construction-maintenance-projects/.

Work Zone Safety Tips for Drivers:

• Slow down and follow speed limits through work zone

• Watch for workers, equipment, signs and barricades

• Use caution when traveling through the work zone

The annual Youth Fishing Derby at Willow Springs Ponds on May 8 was a big success.

• Plan for extra travel time

• Prepare for detours and alternate routes

Also, I was pleased to host another great Youth Fishing Derby out at Willow Springs Ponds on May 8. Much fun was enjoyed by all who participated and prizes were awarded in multiple age groups and categories. Fishing has always been a fun and relaxing activity for me and brings back so many fond memories as a youth going to the lake or coast with my father and godfather. I hope that new and wonderful memories were made this year as well for all the youth. Thanks to all those that volunteered and participated, including all of our sponsors. I look forward to seeing even more participants in next year's derby and the return of the hot dog grill out.

God bless and have a great week.
