On Sunday, May 23, 2021, Kyatea DaShonn Watson, loving father, son, brother and friend, passed away at the young age of 38.
Kyatea was born October 19, 1982, to Patricia Ann Gillen and Eugene Darryl Blackburn, later to be adopted by Artrie Lee Watson. In addition to his parents, he leaves behind three beautiful daughters, Takaya, Ky'Mari and Zamani, as well as his four handsome sons Geremiah, Jayden, Ajenti and Bryant. He is also survived by his older brother Marquis, his younger sisters ChaRitta and LaTrisha, and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss his presence in their lives.
Kyatea, known to many as "Q," was a true beacon of hope and beam of sunshine to every person he encountered. He had a gift for finding and drawing out the positives of each individual he met and each situation encountered. Q's kind, confident and welcoming persona was even known to draw in strangers who could not resist the love and joy radiating from him. He would always take a moment to let friends, family, and even acquaintances, regardless of distance, know they were loved and thought of. He had a reputation for just "dropping by" or just "getting out in nature" that resulted in countless fond memories for those around him. Whether professionally or personally, everyone Kyatea met will undoubtedly remember his dashing wit, infectious smile, and enveloping hugs. He will be forever loved and missed by his friends and family, but leaves behind a steadfast example of love, loyalty and joy. His memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on June 3, 2021, at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary in Fountain, CO with repass to follow at 3680 Citadel North, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. Viewing will be held at 3 p.m. on June 2 at Dove-Witt.
