On May 10, the Mesa Ridge High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps held their annual Awards Ceremony and Change of Command. Thirty-six cadets received medals and ribbons from various veteran organizations in recognition of achievements in academics, leadership, citizenship and patriotism.
Two guest speakers were in attendance: Major Mark Davis, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, is the Widefield High School Navy JROTC instructor. Major Davis shared four pillars of a successful JROTC program. These pillars are the school's administration, the instructors, the parents, and the cadets.
Mr. Scott Sage, Mesa Ridge High School principal, reflected on the successes of former and current JROTC cadets within the program.
During the Change of Command ceremony, the retiring staff, cadet Lt. Commander Scott Wing, cadet Lt. Junior Grade Cyrus Escalante, and cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Jesse Terrazas, relinquished their staff positions to cadet Ensign Caleb Jones, Grizzly Company Cadet Commanding Officer; cadet Executive Officer Joshua Ramberg, Executive Officer; and cadet Chief Petty Officer Ariel Hobbs, Company Chief, in a formal passing of the unit's guidon ceremony.
Other cadets rounding out the Grizzly Company staff are cadet Chief Petty Officer Jacob Gallegos-Stroman, Operations Officer; cadet Petty Officer Third Class Alyssa Presley, Administration Officer; cadet Petty Officer First Class Garrett Steward, Supply Officer; cadet Petty Officer Third Class Maggie Marjerrison, Adjutant and Recruiting Officer; cadet Petty Officer Second Class Aidan Brymer, Academics and Training Officer; cadet Petty Officer Third Class Haley Emter, Public Affairs Officer; cadet Seaman Aaron Johnson, Armory Officer; and cadet Seaman Alayah Gibson, Assistant Supply Officer.
