The leadership team of Fountain Fire Department, plus four up-and-coming leaders, pose with leadership coach Rob Noyes-Smith during a training session July 23 in a city conference room. Last week all Fountain city department heads and leaders from the fire and police departments participated in a leadership development program to identify individuals' leadership styles - Promoting, Driving, Analyzing or Supporting - and train participants in the best way to work together for the overall benefit of their departments. The sessions included hands-on exercises to help practice what they learned. Tasha Wray, a one-year fire department employee, said she learned "to be mindful when dealing with those styles so you can interact with them better." Fire Chief James Maxon said the consultant, an experienced executive coach, normally would cost a company thousands of dollars. However, he performed this training at a fraction of the cost "as his civic duty."
