Fountain, Colorado ... The Beginning

The American Indians were the first people in the Pikes Peak area. We had Utes, Apache, Comanche, Arapahos and Cheyenne.

The land where Fountain sets was explored by the Spanish as early as 1719.

The Mallet brothers were French explorers. They led the first recorded expedition into Colorado in 1739.

In 1779 the governor of New Mexico, Juan Bautista de Anza, led 645 men on the last major Spanish thrust into Colorado. On Aug. 31-Sept. 1, he had with him 200 Utes and Apaches.
