Purple Heart awarded to Army veteran

On Monday, Aug. 16, a group including civilians, military members and state officials met at the Memorial Wall by Fort Carson's Gate 1 to present U.S. Army First Sergeant (Retired) Reginald Barrett with a Purple Heart Award.

Congressman Doug Lamborn described how Barrett suffered injuries from improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Iraq. These injuries were not recognized at the time, and Lamborn's office campaigned for Barrett to receive a Purple Heart.
