Fountain City Council race has 7 candidates to date

As of close of business Thursday, seven individuals had picked up petitions to start the process of running for City Council or mayor in Fountain, according to the City Clerk's Office.

Of those, six had returned completed petitions, which must have 25 signatures from registered voters.

Positions and candidates so far (petition picked up – PU; petition submitted – S):

At-Large (one seat):

Fredrick Hinton – PU&S

Ward 1 (one seat)

Gordon Rick – PU&S

Christopher Curl – PU&S

Ward 3 (one seat)

Cory Applegate – PU&S

Marcia Gieck – PU&S

Mayor

Sharon Thompson – PU&S

Greg Lauer – PU

Municipal candidates are all nominated by petition. Nomination petitions can be obtained from the City Clerk's Office and must be returned and filed in the City Clerk's Office no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23.

Nomination petitions for all candidates must be signed by at least 25 registered electors. Petitions for candidates in Ward 1 or Ward 3 may only be signed by registered electors residing in those respective wards. The petitions for Mayor and At-Large candidates may be signed by registered electors residing anywhere within the city limits. Any petition that is deficient in the number of valid signatures may be amended no later than Aug. 27.
