6 Quick, Easy Ways to Have Fun Today

When's the last time you had fun? Like, felt really good, light and relaxed. Today, we rush to get things done, and we can easily forget about having fun. Experiencing play and connection in the day is simple and exactly what's needed to break through stressful times.

It starts by doing something you can look forward to daily. You'll be better for it. Let's start today.

Making time for fun, play, and simply enjoying yourself reduces stress, improves our ability to cope, boosts energy, enhances our connection with others, and even helps us to sleep better at night.

I used to get heavily caught up in work and checking things off my to-do list. I'd forget to look up and around me to see that all the things I had to do weren't at all as urgent as I thought. Feeling burnt out all the time wasn't okay with me anymore. I began to re-prioritize and put things aside. Then, I took time to myself and with family and friends. Making this change has improved my health, outlook, and relationships. Now I know... always make time for fun.

I hope this list inspires you and guides you toward something fun you can do today. What can you put aside for now and replace with something that makes you feel good, light, and relaxed?

Here are 6 quick and easy ways to have fun today:

Draw. Maybe you'll start with an idea. Or not. Grab a pencil and paper, and let the ideas flow as you go. You might surprise yourself with what you'll come up with. Don't set expectations-just let it be what it is.

Make Playdough from scratch. Playdough never gets old. I still love playing with it and always will. It's super easy to make at home with a few kitchen staples. You can search for a recipe online. Go for a walk at sunset. My favorite time to walk is in the late afternoon, as the sun is setting. The golden glow and cool breeze makes for the perfect way to ease into evening and unwind.

Write a short story. It doesn't have to be a literary masterpiece. Just do it for yourself. What type of characters can you create? Where do they live? What's interesting about them? Bring your imagination to life with a story only you can create.

Juggle. Every time I attempt to juggle, I end up laughing a lot more than I do mastering the skill. Being bad at something can be pretty fun. It's all about trying something new-an easy way to break through routine and boredom.

Have a 2-hour breakfast. Or over 2 hours. Whatever works for you. Switch a rushed breakfast to a slow, well-enjoyed meal. Mindfully sip your coffee. Make sourdough pancakes, waffles, or whatever you're in the mood for. Take your time. Read a book. Or write in your journal. Relax and enjoy starting the day with ease.

Above all, be spontaneous, open to adventure and new things, and put the checklist away for a while. It'll be there when you need it.
