Recalling the Fountain Valley's fields of 'white gold'

Fountain Valley "hides its light under a bushel." Newspaper articles from the early 1900s reported the valley was one of the finest sugar beet sections in the country. "Recent tests made by The Fountain Valley and & Irrigation Company show that the sugar content of its beets is 30 percent higher than is found in any other part of the world," according to Edward Van Asmus, vice president of the Valley Land & Irrigation Company, yet little has been said about it!

The farmers pay more attention to improving their beet crops than they do to talking.
