I am running for Fountain City Council Ward 3 because I want to be of service to my community and represent the residents of my Ward. I have the education, experience and longevity to make me a qualified candidate for the job.

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and a K-6 Elementary Teaching Certificate from UCCS, a Master of Arts in Education Degree from Grand Canyon University, and I am a Certified Academic Language Practitioner.

For over 35 years I have been employed by both public and private schools in many capacities. I served as a CASA volunteer in the Fountain Valley area for several years. I assisted with the establishment of my neighborhood HOA and have served as an officer for the past nine years. For two years I was a member of the Fountain Planning Commission. Serving for my church on several councils, teaching religion classes, leading small prayer groups, lecturing, and distributing communion have been a source of great joy for me over the years. For the past 11 years, I have had the privilege of mentoring new teachers, being an instructor for new teachers in the UCCS/PPBOCES Two Year Alternative Licensure Program, and serving on its board of advisors. For the remainder of this school year, I am honored to be the Interventionist at Divine Redeemer Catholic School. I plan to retire from that position in May.

My husband and I have lived in the Fountain Valley area for over 45 years, and we love it here. We raised our three daughters here, and they were educated in the area schools. In addition to our daughters, we have three wonderful sons-in-law and eight delightful grandchildren. We treasure our family!

If I should be elected to Fountain City Council, my priorities will be public safety; responsible, ethical growth and development; and fiscal responsibility. My husband was a CSFD firefighter; my father-in-law was a CSPD officer; and I have several nephews in Illinois who also serve as police officers. I hold their positions in the highest regard, and I believe our first responders and citizens are entitled to safety and protection above all else. I will work hard to get a fully manned fire station on the east side of Fountain. Work towards that has happened, and I look forward to having a part in seeing that hard work come to fruition.

Having lived in the Fountain Valley for 45 years, I have witnessed firsthand the rapid growth to our area. That growth has brought with it new businesses and more tax revenue, but it has also brought increased traffic and infrastructure wear and tear. Any additional growth in the area must be considered carefully and responsibly. Roads are a hot topic, but roads are very expensive. Money has been allocated for some large projects, and I will look "outside the box" to find funding mechanisms to pay for existing neighborhood roads in Ward 3 and surrounding areas. Finally, the city budget must guide all decisions. All city projects must be carefully prioritized. There's an old adage about eating an elephant one bite at a time. Government is an "elephant," and change happens slowly.

I hope you will support my efforts and vote for me in November. I can give you my promise that if I'm elected, I'll be honest, available, hard-working, reliable, and transparent.
