Fountain students learn about fire prevention

Eagleside Elementary School students check out equipment and ask questions of paramedics and firefighters with the Fountain Fire Department on Thursday during the department's Fire Prevention Week presentations.

Members of the Fountain Fire Department treated area elementary students to special presentations last week in recognition of Fire Prevention Week.

From demonstrating how a firefighter sounds like Darth Vader from Star Wars while wearing a breathing apparatus, to hands-on visits inside a fire engine, the program had a lot of information – both fun and potentially life-saving.

At Eagleside Elementary School on Thursday, Fountain Fire Chief James Maxon gave a 30-minute talk about what firefighters do every day, the benefits of firefighting as a career and general fire safety.
