Memorials are placed along Fountain Mesa Road near Medicine Bow Avenue, the site of an accident that claimed the life of a 44-year-old Fountain man on Oct. 12.

A Fountain man died after being struck by a vehicle last week while walking near the intersection of Fountain Mesa Road and Medicine Bow Avenue.

The accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The victim in the accident, 44-year-old Joshua Lueck, was deceased by the time police and fire officials arrived on scene.

"The Fountain Police Accident Reconstruction Team took over the investigation," Lt. Mark Cristiani said. "It was determined the driver was traveling north on Fountain Mesa Road and struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street at Medicine Bow Avenue. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation."

The driver is identified as 32-year-old Guadelupe Cardenas of Colorado Springs. Fountain Police noted a day after the initial report that this accident now is being investigated as an alcohol-related crash.
