Ferruginous hawk

Hawkvember is not an official title, but it is my nickname for the month of November. If you are wanting to see the biggest variety of hawks, November is the month. There are a few reasons for that. First, hawks are pairing up for mating season to begin in December. Second, many trees are bare of leaves and hawks are easier to see. Third, most of the hawks that migrate to our area for the winter to breed, are here by the end of the month. Finally, most of the young hawks born last spring are venturing out on their own, claiming territories and finding mates.
