Veterans Day events planned in the area

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m., the city of Fountain will host an event at Mayor’s Park (corner of Dale Street and Iris Drive in Fountain) to honor local veterans.

Mayor-elect Sharon Thompson will give opening and closing remarks, as well as a history reading. U.S. Army SFC (Ret.) Rick Clements will give the invocation and the closing benediction, U.S. Army Sgt. Keith Rubel will lead the pledge of allegiance. Fran Carrick of Sew Time in the Valley, on behalf of Quilt of Valor, will present local veterans with the Quilt of Valor Award for their service.

American Legion Post 38 on Southmoor Drive will hold its breakfast at 8 a.m.

VFW Post 6461 at 753 S. Santa Fe Ave. will have its flag raising at 11, followed by an indoor ceremony discussing the meaning of Veterans Day, as well as lunch.

Government offices are closed for this holiday.
