Help for Thanksgiving

Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center is giving away Thanksgiving meals to any veteran in need at the Fountain Safeway on Friday, Nov. 19.

To pick up food, you will need verification of registration; a photo ID matching the registration; and verification of military service (DD 214, DoD ID, VA ID, GOV ID, driver's license with veteran indicator, etc.)

Pick-up will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.

Mt. Carmel also has drive-through food distribution open to anyone on Nov. 23, Dec. 9 and Dec. 23 at Norris Penrose Event Center Upper Lot. These will be at 11 a.m. until supplies run out.

Salvation Army Fountain Valley Corps will have a Thanksgiving Dinner basket giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 20, from noon-2 p.m. at 208 Cunningham Drive in Security. Pick-up will be drive-through style. Sign-up is required in advance. Visit in person, or call (719) 382-1182.

American Legion Post 38 at 6685 Southmoor Drive invites anyone in need of company or hot food to join them for the annual Thanksgiving feast at the post, as they will have numerous turkeys and sides ready for the occasion starting at noon. All are welcome, no reservations needed.

"We realize that for many, this might be the only Thanksgiving meal they get, so we try to make it special for them," Post Commander Andrew Colby said. "Many volunteers will be there all night cooking and all day serving and cleaning."

Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 will provide meals on Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving break at two locations: Aragon Elementary and Patriot Elementary on post.

Monday, Nov. 22: Three lunches provided from 9-10 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 23: Four lunches provided from 9-10 a.m.

Meals are available to all community members age 18 and under. Students need not be present.
