The annual Widefield Parks and Recreation tree lighting will be Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department. The event also serves as a collection point for new toys and new or gently used coats to help local families this holiday season.

While out shopping, consider picking up something extra for someone in need. Donations of new, unwrapped gifts can be made at the Parks & Rec office and every school in WSD3, or at the tree lighting event.

Gift ideas include: art/coloring supplies, books, curling/flat irons, hair accessories, gift cards, hats/ball caps, Kindles, nail polish, playing cards, board games, slippers, water bottles, backpacks, warm clothing, DVDs, lipgloss, spa sets, makeup, skateboards, scooters, sports equipment, electronic accessories, sunglasses, scarves.

Talk to your school counselor if your family needs help this year. The toy drive is sponsored by the WSD3 Positive Action Team.

Other tree lightings

The Fort Carson Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will be Friday, Dec. 3 from 5-8 p.m. at Iron Horse Park.
