Wag of the Week

Last updated 12/15/2021 at 10:29am

AARF's Cathy Blake recently traveled to Lamar and also Raton, N.M., to pick up puppies (yes, we mentioned these babies last week); in general, Colorado has a better adoption rate than New Mexico. (Still, "our" people are not spaying/neutering nearly enough.) These 7-week-old sweeties all need foster or foster-to-adopt homes. What if we could place them by Christmas? (Chanukah has already passed). They look to be lab mixes who will be about 45 pounds, and are currently known, adorably, as Rocket, Cinnamon, Rusty, Winston and Piper. (They are also on our FB page.)

It seems unnecessary to say, but puppies don't stay that way. I don't mean to – never mean to – sound preachy, but, awhile back, an out-of-state friend who has a dog with a major health issues, but no money to have him diagnosed or treated, said he really wants to get a puppy – now! Yikes. It's really important to attend to the pets that one already has, before taking on another – especially if they're older and/or in bad health. They love you, need you, were once itty bitty balls of fur and squiggles themselves, right? Reminds me of the song title "Try to Remember" – but if you, like I, have adopted dogs already grown, then consider another song: "Imagine."Hopefully, holiday spirit is upon us. We'd appreciate any kind of donations: food, supplies, toys, crates, financial contributions. Also, IF YOU ARE SKILLED in setting up an online auction, we need to hear from you asap. For now, why not consider setting up a personal fundraiser (but for AARF) on your FB page? I'm going to do this myself. It's easy – I have done it before.

Happy Holidays to you and your animals! It may be Indian summerish – but remember to keep your pals warm, with plenty of fresh water, this winter. And thanks so much for reading!
