Santa greets students at Grand Mountain School on Dec. 16 as he makes the rounds to all WSD3 schools for toy collection.

The Widefield School District 3 Toy Drive, which started in 2014, concluded last week with festive pick-ups throughout the district. The district's Positive Action Team (PAT) came up with the idea as a way to give back and partner with the community. PAT teamed up with the Security Fire Department to be able to help families in need during the holidays. Every school in the district along with the Fountain Valley Senior Center, Widefield Parks and Recreation, and the Security Public Library collects new, unwrapped gifts for two weeks in December. Then Santa and his elves ride in the Holiday Express to each location to collect donations. Toys and gifts are dropped off at the fire department at the end of the day. The fire department then gets gifts out to families.
