Widefield High School freshman Aiden Meacham was recently named the U.S. Junior Champion for speed skating among his age division.

Aiden skates for Colorado Gold and just returned from competing in the U.S. Junior Long Track Championships and American Cup Racing Series in Minnesota.

Aiden took gold in the 1500m and the 3000m, and silver in the 500m and the 1000m. These standings earned Aiden the overall title for his division. Aiden also earned silver in the Mass Start race and his team took third place in the Team Pursuit race. Aiden is now preparing for his next race in March and then practices skating technique and drills for a couple of hours every night. He also cross-trains doing Tae Kwon Do where he earned his Black Belt last year.

Aiden is a busy student-athlete, to say the least. He gets up early to work out before school, goes to his classes, many of them honors courses, and then practices skating for a couple of hours every night. He also does Tae Kwon Do for cross-training one night a week

Aiden's dream is to skate in the 2024 Junior Olympics and then the Olympics taking Gold. He also wants to become a physical therapist so he can give back to the athletic community.
