A pedestrian was struck by a train near Metcalfe Park in Fountain on Feb. 4, but officials report “there were virtually no injuries.”

Fountain Police said a 17-year-old male was walking along the tracks near Ohio Avenue and Metcalfe Park when he was struck by the train’s sidebar. The train was going approximately 35 mph.

“It knocked him into the bushes, but there were virtually no injuries to the juvenile,” FPD’s Mark Cristiani said. “Apparently he had his ear pods in and didn’t hear the train. He was cited for criminal trespassing, which is a misdemeanor.”

The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, caused the intersection to be closed for a while as emergency crews responded to the scene.
