On Feb. 10 the community was invited to tour the newly completed Mesa Elementary School Addition. Due to growth in the northern part of Fountain, Mesa Elementary needed more room to expand in order to serve its community. The project had been underway for the last few years.
Construction included a new two-story wing to house about 18 classrooms and a new cafeteria on the west side of the original school structure. Renovations to the older section also took place. The gym was updated, and the school's front office and main doors were moved. Other changes to the school included an updated brick façade, making the parking lot bigger on the west side and moving the bus drop-off and pick-up (with entrances and exits to Monterey Way). Parking in front of the building on the north side also was enlarged, and includes more room for kiss-and-go lanes.
Now that the project is complete, the school is able to hold more students to accommodate for growth in the Fountain area for years to come.
