Poetry Contest starts this Friday

Calling all bards, sonneteers, and rhymesters! The annual Poetry Contest begins April 1! Drop off original poetry submissions at the library, mail it to 715 Aspen Dr., 80911, or email [email protected] by April 30. Make sure your entry has your name, age group (K-3rd, 4th-5th, 6th-8th, 9-12th, Adult), and contact information (email and/or phone number). Prizes will be awarded across age groups and divided into the following categories:

Written Poetry: Any subject, style, format or length.

Spoken Word: Recorded (with or without video) original poetry. Submit entries through Google Drive, Facebook messenger, or email.

Blackout Poetry: Mix art and language to make something new out of something old. Search online or see our website for examples.

The fine print: Entries will not be returned and by submitting, you agree to allow SPL to publicize your name and work online or in the library. Prizes not claimed within 60 days will be forfeit.

National Library Week

Celebrate National Library Week (April 3-9) all month long at SPL! Every time you use the library in-person or online, enter to win one of four book-themed prize packs!

Bookmark Coloring Contest for Kids

Celebrate National Library Week with our annual bookmark contest for kids in grades 1st-5th! Pick up a form at the library or download one from our website, then design your very own bookmark with the theme of our Summer Reading Program “Oceans of Possibilities”. Forms must be returned to the library by April 30th. There will be one grand prize winner in each grade who will receive a $20 WalMart gift card! For more information, please call 719-391-3197

Books needed for spring fundraiser

Support the Friends of the Security Public Library by donating your old books and DVDs for the Friends’ Spring Book Sale on April 16.

Children’s books, mysteries, paperbacks, fiction and nonfiction adult books will all be available for sale. Donations of books, especially children’s books, would be greatly appreciated. Sorry, we do not accept magazines, newspapers, or textbooks.

Persons interested in donating books for this worthy cause are encouraged to drop the books off, between 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Security Public Library at 715 Aspen Drive in Security. Questions: Call 719-391-3196

New Shopping Hours for Members of the Friends of Security Public Library:

Friday, April 15 from 6-8 p.m. AND Saturday, April 16, starting at 8 a.m.
