Bridge work to impact S. Academy traffic
Last updated 4/8/2022 at 9:22am
Installation of new bridge girders at South Academy Boulevard and I-25 will cause traffic impacts on Monday, April 11.
Meanwhile, Colorado Department of Transportation and SEMA Construction continue work on the various improvements on I-25 between South Academy and Santa Fe Avenue (Mile Post 135-127). Current work includes widening the Clover and Dry Wash Bridges, constructing substructure for the I-25 bridges over South Academy, hauling dirt and building up the embankment for the I-25 roadway.
The bridge expansion work is on schedule with new bridge girders being installed Monday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on I-25 over Clover Ditch at Mile Point 131. Traffic speeds will be reduced to allow construction equipment access to the work zone located in the median. DO NOT FOLLOW CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES.
There will be alternating left and right lane closures on southbound I-25 (between MP 127-135) Sunday, April 10, through Thursday, April 14, during evening hours to allow crews to perform embankment work. In addition, there will also be alternating left and right lane closures on both north- and southbound I-25 (between MP 127-135) Wednesday, April 13, and Thursday, April 14, during evening hours to allow crews to repair guardrails and remove lane striping. With the variable nature of construction related to I-25 lane closures, please eliminate distractions and drive the posted speed limit to safely arrive at your destination.
Flagging operations will continue on Charter Oak Ranch Road with intermittent shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing crews to safely continue work on the drainage system and dirt work. Please use extra caution when driving through the work zone.
Crews will be setting up messaging boards along Colorado Highway 94. The messaging boards will inform commuters of upcoming work impacting the corridor at CO 94 and North Blaney Road.
Motorists are encouraged to register for text alerts by Texting MAMSIP to 888-970-9665
A Courtesy Patrol will be driving the work zone and will respond to incidents when notified. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and holidays.

Santa Fe Avenue and Charter Oak Ranch Road
Flagging operations with intermittent shoulder closures continue on Charter Oak Ranch Road and Santa Fe Avenue Monday, April 11 to Saturday, April 16, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closures are necessary to allow trucks access to and from the job site and to allow crews to work on the drainage system.
Interstate-25 – Safety and efficiency improvements
The improvements to I-25 addressed in this project are located along an approximately 7.5-mile segment of the corridor beginning at South Academy Boulevard and extending to the Santa Fe Avenue (CO 85/87) exit at Fountain (MP 128), which exits to Gate 19 of Fort Carson.
Replacement of two bridges crossing over South Academy Boulevard;
Widening of both inside and outside shoulders and installing safety improvements;
Concrete surface treatment overlay to provide an improved riding surface for this 7.5-mile segment;
Installation of median barrier the entire length of this corridor;
Rehab and widening work on four bridges along the corridor, and
Installation of I-25 Southbound deceleration lane at the interchange with Colorado Highway 16.
The proposed transportation improvements are mitigation measures to reduce crashes and improve safety in the corridor. It is estimated that the delivery of the MAMSIP project will, over its 20 years of operation, result in fewer deaths, injuries, and crashes on the four corridors the project addresses.
