Good day, I hope all are enjoying a nice start to your week. As we've started Spring (and some occasional Spring-like weather) I'd like to highlight a few outdoor activities in today's column. The end of April brings us the annual Great American Cleanup, and the coming days and week bring us to Holy Week and Easter and some activities at our wonderful Fountain Creek Nature Center to enjoy.

First, the annual Great American Cleanup is on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m.-noon. Join the community in this effort to complete cleanup projects at parks, trails, creeks, and roadways. From the Keep America Beautiful official website, the Great American Cleanup™ is the nation's largest annual community improvement program. Each spring, volunteers nationwide pick up litter, clean rivers and hiking trails, renew parks, create community gardens, plant trees and flowers, hold environmental education events and more. To volunteer, please visit http://www.keepcoloradospringsbeautiful.org/gac. All ages are welcome. Please save the date and consider volunteering.

Also, the El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the El Paso County Board of Health. The Board of Health governs the agency through the establishment of policy, approval of budgets, and appointment of the public health director. The Board of Health is currently seeking one new member, who represents the non-profit, private, or public education sectors.

Board of Health meetings are typically held monthly on the fourth Wednesday of the month beginning at 8:30 a.m. Regular meetings are hosted on the first floor of the Citizens Service Center, unless otherwise indicated. Meeting dates, times and meeting agendas are posted on El Paso County Public Health's website at http://www.elpasocountyhealth.org. All meetings are open to the public. The volunteer application is at http://www.elpasoco.com, can be accessed at: https://bocc.elpasoco.com/volunteer, and are due by April 15.

Finally, come out and enjoy a couple of upcoming events for the little ones at the Fountain Creek Nature Center. This week enjoy "Nature Adventures- Eggsploring Eggs" on Thursday, April 7, 10-11:30 a.m. or Friday, April 8, from 10-11:30 a.m. Children ages 3-6, with an adult, will enjoy puppet shows or stories, crafts, hands-on activities, and discovery time on the trail. Cost is $3 per person and prepaid registration is required. Or bring the kids out for the "Chocolate Bunny Egg Hunt" Saturday, April 16 at either 9-10 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon, or 1-2 p.m. Children can meet a live rabbit, learn about rabbits via a fun, interactive slide show, then hunt for eggs as you hike through the woods. For children ages 2-10 with an adult. Prepaid registration is required. $6 per person/$5 per member. To register go to https://communityservices.elpasoco.com/nature-centers/ or call 719-520-6745. Have a great day, everyone.
