Smoke detectors credited with saving residents

The charred inside of a home on El Vereda Drive in Fountain after a fire did major damage early the morning of Monday, April 18.

Firefighters responded to an early-morning house fire on El Vereda Drive, just south of C&S Road in Fountain, on Monday, April 18.

When Fountain firefighters arrived, they found a two-story, single-family residential building engulfed in flames. Firefighters from Security Fire Department, Stratmoor Hills Fire Department, Hanover Fire Department, and Fort Carson Fire Department responded as well.

The fire was under control at 3:35 a.m., and the last fire apparatus cleared the scene at 7:26. The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by properly working smoke detectors, the department noted in a media release. No injuries were reported to any civilians or firefighters. The fire is currently under investigation and it is unknown how it started.
