City organizing 'helping hands' to assist neighbors in need

Fountain’s Neighborhood Services division has announced it plans to begin a “helping hands” program aimed at assisting disabled and senior citizens with cleaning up their yards, according to Lucia Tingley, the head of that division.

Tingley says there are many in the community who do not have the ability to pay for lawn services or to keep their yards free of trash and debris; and there are some who need minor repairs to fences.

Tingley says the program is in its preliminary set-up stage and that her department will now start gathering the names of people who want to volunteer their services. She expects the service to start later in the spring.
