Bubba

Hi folks, our adoption rate is not super impressive right now, but a few dogs have found homes. A new dog in is Bubba, a purebred boxer. I have read about the boxer temperament, and it sounds like boxers make great pets. I have a friend in Texas who will adopt this breed or a mix only, and feels guilty, but I told her, hey, someone out there wants only a collie, a beagle, a poodle, etc. It's OK! Bubba will be neutered this week. He came in as a stray and it's unknown how he is with children and cats – he gets along with all adults. He's up to date on vaccinations and is already microchipped.

Summer is coming, and so are the mosquitoes. We have very few here in Fountain, but I've "beat" the odds before. My husband once said we used up ALL our luck for life after the birth of our second child. I'd had three miscarriages, had a chronic illness, and was already nearly 46. But we persevered and so did our daughter, now 23 and healthy as she can be. So it takes just one mosquito. You must have your dogs heartworm-tested before starting the medication each year (unless you have them on it year-round). Giving preventive meds to a dog who is already positive can be very dangerous, even deadly. Please consult link below for an excellent article. Also, some breeds need a different kind of heartworm medication. My sheltie-mix could not have what my heeler-mix had, so please ask (remind) your vet about the mixes he/she perceives in your pup. https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/animal-health-literacy/keep-worms-out-your-pets-heart-facts-about-heartworm-disease
