Drivers should prepare for a traffic switch and lane reduction on Fountain Mesa Road near Lowe's next week for milling and paving.

On Monday, June 6, through Saturday, June 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Fountain Mesa Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Mesa Ridge Parkway to Caballero/Fortman Avenue for milling and paving operations.

In addition, crews will be closing off half of the signalized intersection at the Janitell Junior High School/Lowe's Home Improvement intersection. When the west side of Fountain Mesa Road is closed, the west side of the intersection will also be closed, and vice versa.

Crews will be working 7 a.m - 6 p.m daily, but the lane reduction will be in place 24 hour a day.

The contractor will need to close half of the road at a time, while milling and paving that closed area. Once complete, they will switch the traffic to the other half and work on the remaining half.

Traffic control and detours will be in place during operations, but please expect delays and plan accordingly. Alternate routes are advised.

Note: Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change, which may impact this construction schedule and duration.

The city of Fountain is collaborating with El Paso County to get this section of road paved while school is out of session. As a reminder, the roundabout at Caballero/Fortman is a county project. It is expected to be complete this summer.
