This 1956 Chevy Bel Air owned by Sheldon Schnese was the 1950-1959 winner in last year's Thunder in the Valley. The 2022 event is set for July 8-9 at Metcalfe Park.

This year's Thunder in the Valley Cruise and Car Show kicks off Friday at 4 p.m. at Metcalfe Park in Fountain with a show and shine. Then at 5 p.m. there will be a car cruise through part of Fountain starting at Metcalfe Park then down to Pikes Peak International Raceway for six laps around the track and then back to Metcalfe Park. Car show registrants can come earlier for a barbeque around 3:30. Then on Saturday the car show runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Metcalfe Park. The car show features cars and trucks of all years, makes and models and vendors, food and a DJ will be at the park.

The Thunder in the Valley Car club is a 501c3 nonprofit. All proceeds from the car show will stay in the community. A club spokesperson said donations go to the Fountain Fire and Police Departments for their Toys for Tots program; the city of Fountain to buy candy for the Halloween Trunk or Treat; and to different organizations at the three local high schools like the business programs: Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) programs and to support the football clubs.

The public is invited to come out Friday and Saturday.
