Special events

There will be several special music guests during lunch hours this July.

Humana will offer an educational class on July 28 called “Fall Asleep, Stay Asleep.”.

Dinner on the Town — On Wed. July 27, meet at Cracker Barrel, 8355 Razorback Road, Colorado Springs, at 5 p.m.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:30–12:30. There is a suggested donation of $3.50 for Seniors over 60 and a required $7.50 for those under 60. Reservations are required to be called in 24 hours in advance. Call 719-600-2644. See menu on this page.

BINGO—Each Tuesday AND Thursday at 1 p.m. $5 for 6 games, cash prizes. Come for lunch before BINGO.

Dementia Support Group meets every third Monday of the month at 2 p.m. at the center in the conference room. The public is invited to attend.

Cardio Drumming meets at the center every Tuesday at 2 p.m. for a half-hour of music, exercise and fun.

Tap Dance Classes — Dottie White teaches a tap class Tuesdays 10:15-11:15 a.m. for all abilities. Call the office to participate.

Blood Pressure Checks — Bi monthly Blood Pressure checks are back at the Senior Center. Volunteers will record your blood pressure and weight at the center every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10:15-11:15.

Transportation is provided by appointment only for seniors 60-plus or non-elderly disabled. Transportation is provided to: medical appointments, congregate meals, shopping, personal business, and senior center. To make reservations, call 719-600-2643, with at least 48 hours notice. NEW: Transportation available for Gameday, the first Saturday of the month. Reservations by Wednesday. Thursdays are prescription pickup day at Fort Carson. Instructions for us to pick up your prescriptions: When you call Evans for refills you need to select option three (3). This will send your prescription to the old commissary where we will pick it up and deliver it to your house.

FVSC is located at 5745 Southmoor Drive. Become a member of the Senior Center. Cost is $20/individual, and $30/couple. Members get priority when signing up for special events. Call 719-600-2644.

Thrift Store

The Kitty Paster Thrift Shoppe is open Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and has many items for sale at reasonable prices. Proceeds help support the Senior Center. The shop offers clean clothing, household goods, music and more. Masks are optional if vaccinated.

The thrift store is accepting donations during their business hours. The following are NOT accepted: electronics, large furniture, mattresses or hazardous waste materials.

Cripple Creek Run — Got an itch to go up the hill and hear the slot machines? The second Saturday of every month FVSC takes a bus up to Cripple Creek. Bus leaves the center at 9 a.m. and leaves Cripple Creek at 4 p.m. Members will have priority for reservations. There will be a $20 fee for transportation.

Reservations are limited to 12 riders. Nonmembers will be placed on a wait list, with a fee of $30.
