El Paso County Parks

Buffalo Gals delicious food is a staple of Happy Trails.

Good day, I hope you are having a nice week so far. This week I wanted to highlight a few of our Parks events, including one fundraiser this Friday that benefits our two County Nature Centers. As we begin to near the end of our summer, I hope all will take advantage of our remaining summer parks events and activities.

First, this year is our 13th Happy Trails BBQ Fundraiser. Join El Paso County Nature Centers for an evening of great food, incredible desserts, music, beer and wine, and friends at this special annual event on Friday, Aug. 19, from 6-9 p.m., at Bear Creek Nature Center (245 Bear Creek Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80906).

Come out for this wonderful BBQ Fundraiser - an evening to benefit Friends of El Paso County Nature Centers. Enjoy Buffalo Gals Catering's signature Santa Maria style Tri-Tip, wine and beer and decadent desserts from a variety of local businesses - all in the beautiful setting of Bear Creek Nature Center. Live music from the All In! Jazz Trio, entertainment, and great company will make this an evening to remember while we raise funds for a new Northern El Paso County Nature Center! El Paso County residents are fortunate to have two award-winning County nature centers-Bear Creek and Fountain Creek. These centers provide education, connection, and places for outdoor exploration. A third County Nature Center in the northern part of the County will provide additional opportunities for community members.

Tickets for the BBQ are $50 each or $300 for a 6-person table. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite at Tickets can also be purchased directly through Bear Creek Nature Center to avoid fees. Call 719-520-6387 Tuesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Also, don't forget to enjoy the free "Concerts in the Park:" Wednesdays at Bear Creek Regional Park, Thursdays at Fox Run Regional Park, and August 30th at Fountain Creek Regional Park. Concerts in the Park are in full swing! Bring your picnic, lawn chairs, blankets, families, and friends to enjoy the summer nights, some great outdoor entertainment, and another great summer of live music in our parks. All concerts are FREE and open to the public. All concerts are from 6-8 p.m. For a full list of dates and lineups, find us online at or call (719) 520-6977.

Finally, save the date for the annual Fall Bird Count, which will be held on Saturday, September 10, 7:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m. Join the annual tradition and help record the number of bird species and populations found in Fountain Creek Regional Park during fall migration. Fee is $5/person donation. Enjoy a great week, all.
