Here are the special events and updates at Security Public Library during October.

Library Closures and Late Openings – October

Wednesday, October 5th – Library Opening Late at 10:30 a.m. for Staff Development

Monday, October 10th – Closed for Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day

Scary Story Contest October 1-31st

Share your best scary (or not-so-scary) story with us!


A 1st and 2nd place winner will be chosen from each category:

K-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, 9th-12th grade, Adult

1st place: $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble

2nd place: $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble


One original entry per person

Include: name, address, phone number, and age/grade

Must be received by 10-31-22

D&D Horror One-Shot: The Haunt

Saturday, October 1st 10:00 am-2:00 pm

Start spooky season off right and join us for The Haunt! These "one-shot" sessions are compact games, completed in one afternoon! Registration is REQUIRED due to space limitations, so please call 719-391-3190 or email [email protected] to reserve your spot!

Costumes encouraged!

Craft @ the Library Saturday, October 8th

10:00 am-12:00 pm

Embrace the fall season by creating an adorable pumpkin or snowman. Registration is required and spots are limited to ages 12 and older. See our website for sign-up information.

Korean Lotus Lantern Class

Saturday, October 15th 1:00-2:30 pm

The Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project (KSCPP) will teach participants step by step how to make a lovely lotus flower lantern using colored paper and a pre-made wire frame. At the same time, participants will learn about Korea's unique history and culture. A short documentary film will be played toward the end of the class.

Registration is required. Participants must be 10 years or older.

Book Sale Friday, October 21st and Saturday, October 22nd

Friday, October 21st 6-8 pm

Friends of the Library members only! You can sign up at the door or in the library during normal business hours. $5 for a year or $25 for lifetime membership.

Saturday, October 22

8-9 am: FOL (Friends of the Library) members only

9 am - 4 pm: General Public

Children's Activities for October

Preschool Storytime

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays @ 10:30 am.

Join us each week for new stories, crafts, friends, and fun!

Little Bookworms Storytime (0-3 yr olds)

Thursdays @ 9:30 am.

Although all ages are welcome at our preschool storytimes, we invite our youngest patrons to this special program geared just for them! We focus on songs, movement and having fun!

Messy Monday

October 3rd @ 9:30 am and 10:30 am

Children ages 2-5 and their caregiver are invited to this fun and messy once a month program! We focus on the process and the product as we explore paint, sand, clay, and more! Sign up is required for this program. Due to its messy nature, we keep attendance numbers low. To sign up, call us at 719-391-3197

Homeschool Crew

Wednesday, October 19th @ 11:15 am at S.A. Education Center (930 Leta Dr.).

Each month we have fun STEAM activities that revolve around a different theme. Have some fun and meet some fellow homeschool friends! This program is off site. Please call us at 719-391-3197 or go to our website for more information.

Grab and Go Crafts Are Back

A new children's craft will be available each week, while supplies last.

Teen Activities for October

T.A.B. -- October 4, 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Join Security Public Library's Teen Advisory Board! Enjoy free food. Earn volunteer hours. Influence teen collections and activity development.

Teen Activity Night -- October 11, 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Come participate in this month's activity-planned by teens, for teens.

Teen Movie Night -- October 28, 5:30 pm - end of movie

Grab your friends and come watch a movie at the library after hours! Wear your comfy clothes, snag a bag of popcorn, grab a drink, and watch this month's PG or PG-13 feature.
