Good morning, everyone. I hope you enjoyed a nice, if cold, Veterans Day. I was pleased to be the guest speaker for Miami-Yoder School's Veterans Day program on Friday and then enjoyed a nice reception on Saturday at VFW 6461 which was celebrating its Auxiliary's 75th anniversary. We also had a great State of the Region presentation this past week with our Board Chair providing the county's annual update.

This past week, El Paso County Commission Chair Stan VanderWerf delivered our annual State of the Region. This update provided a recap of the highlights and relevant issues of the past year and where we see the county moving forward in the future. To see his entire presentation on the State of the Region, please go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feQvlKguxGo.

Also, for those looking for a local holiday market, come out to the Fountain Creek Nature Center this Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Local artists and vendors will display and sell their unique creations. Enjoy the sights and smells of the season and support local community artists and the nature center through your purchases. Free to attend and shop! I hope to see you there.

And to view additional upcoming events at the Nature Center or to register for any of the events below, go to ONLINE REGISTRATION available at https://communityservices.elpasoco.com/nature-centers/ or call 719-520-6745.

For the little ones, check out "Nature Adventures: Winter Green," at the Nature Center on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 10–11:30 a.m., and Friday, Dec. 2, from 10–11:30 a.m. Children ages 3-6, with an adult, will enjoy puppet shows or stories, crafts, hands-on activities, and discovery time on the trail. $3 per person including siblings and adults. Prepaid registration is required.

Or, come out for "2's & 3's Outdoors: December," on Thursday, Dec. 8, 10–11:15 a.m., or Friday, Dec. 9, 10–11:15 a.m. Explore nature with your 2- or 3 year-old through interactive activities, a story, and a short hike. Cost is $3 per person including siblings and adults. Prepaid registration is also required. Enjoy the start of your holiday season and God bless.
