The 17th annual Widefield Parks and Recreation holiday tree lighting celebration will be Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department, 705 Aspen Drive in Security.

There will be Santa, cookies, hot drinks, s'mores, caroling, Letters to Santa station, library crafts, photo booth and more. TUNS of FUN Hot Dogs, Go Fish Food Truck, and Amazing Kettle Corn will be selling dinner and snacks.

Activities for the entire family begin when Santa lights the tree on the front lawn at 5:30 p.m.

Security Public Library has recorded stories for story time and will be providing a craft.

Donate new toys or gently used coats at Widefield Parks & Recreation now through Dec. 6 to help local families in need. The tree lighting ceremony is the final collection point for this drive. However, schools will collect through Dec. 20.

A new Yuletide sponsor this year is Children's Hospital Colorado. SD3 Federal Credit Union sponsors the Letters to Santa.

For the safety of community members, there will be no through traffic; the entrances on both sides will be closed at 4:30 p.m. The lower parking lot by the new playground will be open, and all parking lots off of Widick Street will be open. For those with mobility challenges, drop-off access is available at the Aspen entrance. Carpooling or ridesharing to the event is recommended due to limited parking.
