A man riding an electric bicycle was killed Sunday when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Powers and Fontaine boulevards.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:12 p.m. The 56-year-old Colorado Springs man was riding an Ecotric e-bicycle, according to the Colorado State Patrol. A 64-year-old male from Colorado Springs (with a 63-year-old female passenger) was driving a 2006 Dodge sedan.
Initial investigation shows the e-bike crossing (west to east) at Fontaine against a Do Not Cross signal and red light, CSP said. The Dodge was northbound on Powers in the left lane and entered the intersection on a green light. The e-bike collided with the Dodge, ejecting the rider.
The bicyclist was declared deceased on scene. The vehicle occupants were not injured.
Alcohol is suspected for the e-bike rider, but the investigation is ongoing.
