A gas leak in the middle of the day Monday prompted evacuations of businesses and homes in the vicinity of South Santa Fe Avenue and Royalty Place on the south end of Olde Town Fountain. Fountain Police said an excavator being used during construction work hit a gas line just behind the building housing Taco Salsa and the soon-to-open Rooster's Grille. Firefighters and Black Hills Energy worked to cap the line, and the scene was secured within the hour.
